If you find yourself in New Orleans and are an avid donut fan like myself, you’ll appreciate this post on where to find the best donuts in New Orleans. Bonus: where to find the best coffee, too!
Because of the *title of my blog, I feel the need to address the fact that I skipped National Donut Day.
I know. “Kaitlyn, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?”
I can explain.
As of late, I have been indulging a little too much in the good stuff. Donuts, pizza, muffin tops (specifically the blueberry muffins from work), etc. It’s been extreme. Because of these indulgences, and because I was out of town, I didn’t feel the need to partake in the greatest day of the year, namely because I have been partaking in it nearly every day for the past month. Thank God my pants still fit, and by fit, I mean I do the little jump maneuver to get them over my German hips. Damn you, ancestors.
*Side note: I am a firm believer in honoring your desires (careful where your minds go, you pervs). But damn it all, life is short, so if you want a donut, eat the damn donut and don’t complain about it, alright? If you are of the health-conscious breed, then practice balance. For example, for every mile you run, that’s a whole entire pizza you can have to yourself. LOL JK. Don’t do that. But you get what I’m saying.
Though I don’t have any pictures from National Donut Day itself, I do have a strong desire to fill this post with my favorite sugary carb from
years days past. Try not to drool on your keyboards. If you do, clean that up real quick because gross.
Blue Dot’s Maple Bacon donut and coffee from The Bean Gallery
I call this winning combination “Ole Faithful”. I actually just made that up, but I think I’m going to continue on with it, because it’s genius. For any of you who have NOT had this donut, stop reading this right now and hop into to your car and DRIVE THERE IMMEDIATELY. When I say that it is one of the best things I have ever eaten… I mean that I have eaten a shit ton of amazing foods, and this one just so happens to be one of my personal faves at the moment.
Okay, so this donut is also from Blue Dot. I’m sure you’re seeing a running theme here already. What can I say? They’re one of my absolute favorite places in the city. The one pictured is your standard chocolate glazed with sprinkles. In my opinion, sprinkles make everything better, especially the rainbow ones (what’s up with the weird chocolate sprinkles that look like mouse droppings? I just can’t with those). Coffee from PJ’s.
Last weekend, I met up with my mom, great-grandma (aka Granny), and my little brother for the day. Mom and Hunter were in town, and I had the day off, so I couldn’t pass up visiting with the ones I love the most, and also sporting my sassy, new dress from Buffalo Exchange. Polka dots are easily my most favorite print to wear, and this one screamed the 40s so I “HAD TO HAVE IT”. It’s a girl thing.
I woke up early and thought, “Man, my family sure would love some donuts!” Maybe that was my way of justifying buying them for myself, as well? I dunno. Who knows. Long story short, they were a huge hit, and I’ve now created some Blue Dot loving monsters.
(Donuts pictured left to right: Samoa (God Bless the Girl Scouts), blueberry cake, chocolate glaze with sprinkles, two glazed (seriously some of the best), and a Maple Bacon Long John chilling at the bottom, being all independent and whatnot)
Okay, moving on! I swear! Blue Dot is the #1 spot for your everyday donut needs. But the place to go when you’re feeling a little frisky and adventurous is…
I know I’ve chatted with you all about this place before, but I just cannot get it out of my DAMN MIND. It is life changing. Everything about it. The donuts are extreme, the coffee is purrfect, and the sliders are the bomb. I’ll have to go there for lunch one day soon, order a dozen sliders and
share them with all of my friends take an inconspicuous picture of them for the blog and eat all of them by myself, because my favorite deadly sin is GLUTTONY.
I mean, will you just look at that case for a second? Would you? I took this picture when I met my friend, Brittany, at District for a birthday breakfast. We ordered the Nutella, Cinnamon Roll, and a buttermilk drop, which is actually on display on top of the case, along with many other delicious food items that will make you question your existence, why elastic waistbands are dubbed “awful”, and maybe your current religion just because.
Just for funsies, I’ve also had the glazed, cinnamon sugar, wedding cake, chocolate glazed, and mocha donuts. If I could insert a video of me kissing my fingertips and exclaiming, “Tres magnifique!”, I would, but 1) I’m in public, 2) I wouldn’t even know how to do that even if I wanted to and 3) I’m not French.
Talk to y’all soon,
Ms. German Hips
*Edited to add: when this post was originally written in 2014, the title of my blog was Powered by Sass…and Maybe Donuts, for clarification. Although my obsession with donuts hasn’t changed one bit, the blog title got some tweaking over the years. 😉
