Happy Monday, y’all! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I thought I’d pop in this morning with a quick weekend recap and say hi since it’s been a bit!
Before we begin, I wanted to wish the United States Air Force a very happy 70th birthday! Thank you to all of the Airmen who serve our country, put service before self and somehow manage to iron their uniforms, shave their faces and refrain from painting their nails according to the seasons daily.
Felix and I started our morning with a three mile run around our neighborhood with the pup. It was still dark out and kind of chilly, so I broke out my favorite Lululemon top before heading out.
I work, work, worked all day and then made it home around 5 p.m. before heading back out with my dude to the Merriweather for Sturgill Simpson!
The magazine I freelance for graciously offered me two tickets to see Sturgill Simpson and Fantastic Negrito at the Merriweather and I happily accepted! You might remember Felix and I catching John Legend there a few weeks back.
The Merriweather is a really cool space that’s amphitheater-style, so you’re able to bring a blanket and a picnic while you enjoy the show.
Felix and I had Whole Foods takeout (my favorite) on our blanket while we lounged and listened to both artists do their thang. It was a really lovely way to end the work week and kick off the weekend!
Saturday morning began bright and early with coffee and homemade oatmeal breakfast cookies (a recipe I used from Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life) before making our way to Andrews Air Force Base for the Air Show.
Felix was adorably excited for this event, which made me super excited as well. I don’t know the first thing about aircraft, specifically military aircraft, but Felix knows it all, so I had my own personal tour guide for the day.
After walking around and looking at a bunch of different planes like one of my favs, the A-10 Thunderbolt (aka the Warthog), we met up with a couple of our friends and continued to enjoy the day!
Felix snapped these for me to use. He has a good eye, doesn’t he? The first picture is beautiful, I think!
We got to catch a bunch of flight demonstrations from various airplanes and even some impressive parachuting performed by the Golden Knights. The control, as Felix pointed out, that these men had while literally falling out of a plane was incredible.
My top favorite demonstrations were the F-22 demos, and, of course, the USAF Thunderbirds, which I’ve never experienced before this weekend!
They were in perfect unison, flying upside down and somehow made it look easy.
We left Andrews around 4 p.m., and after a day of hanging out outside in the heat and learning about planes, I was beat.
On our way back home, we made a quick stop by Sweetgreen for takeout salads and plopped down on the couch to eat and watch Black Hawk Down. It was a military themed Saturday for sure and a fun one at that!
Sunday started with an early morning workout at our gym. We did a thirty minute leg and ab circuit consisting of leg lifts, planks, Bosu ball squats with a kettle bell, single leg deadlifts, wall balls, sandbag lunges (so tough, but so good!) with some rowing in the mix. It was a good one! I love starting the day with a sweat.
Because there were a couple of games on the agenda for the day (Manchester United at 11 a.m. and Saints at 1 p.m.), we went straight to Trader Joe’s for groceries after leaving the gym.
TJ’s has their fall display out already! So many pumpkins, gourds and mums!
Back home, Felix watched soccer while I began cooking and cleaning and then we swapped when the Saints game came on at 1 p.m.
On the menu this week: falafel with hummus and pita, black bean burgers, mushroom enchiladas, and veggie bowls with either tofu or tempeh.
Speaking of cooking, are you guys interested in seeing pictures of the meals I cook along with recipes? Let me know, and I can start adding that to the rotation!
The rest of the day consisted of running a couple of errands, buying one million bags of holiday M&Ms at Target and ended with a couple of episodes of Game of Thrones with Port City’s Oktoberfest (my absolute FAVORITE) while simultaneously ironing and folding clothes before calling it a night.
It was a fun weekend!
